Form 5 Blue of New Educational College has some colourful characters. Sometimes, they become troublesome; at other times they are useful in the institution.
Thappa Tondie. He is a fantastic artist who can sketch just about any one in minutes and can make eyes seem bigger and noses look much longer. His favourite features are ears that stick out as long as buck teeth. All my classmates has had their caricature done by him so that we all had lots of fun some time.
Thappa made pranks on Teacher’s Day sketching the faces of all the 8 teachers on long sheets of papers. When they were presented to our Form teacher, she was thrilled and praised him for his exceptional talent.. She took them into the staffroom and the different reactions of the teachers enjoyed us until we saw Miss Paupeee, our Mathematics teacher. Her face was drawn; Unfortunately, Thappa’s sketch showed her in cobwebs, rattling off a string of mathematical formulae. Her serious look meant that it did not amuse her at all and thanks to Thappa that we got fourty extra problems to solve as homework for the next day.
Puline Martin is the “mad scientist” of the class who has made her reputation with crazy inventions some of which have been troublesome for us. Last Monday, in the middle of Chemistry lesson, a horrible smell, worse than rotten eggs, made the teacher abandon the class. Her product was, as she called it, hydrogen sulphide stink bomb. It sent our class into hot soup! We had to stay for half an hour after the last bell at 14.30 hours for the completion of the lesson.
Pauline’s automatic vacuum cleaner for the blackboard is one worthwhile contribution for it just sucks up all the chalk dust in minutes and saves a lot of time for the teacher who has to clean it up many times in just one lesson. Teachers say that he might become a great inventor one day.
A great class joker is Marline Davis. He is mostly seen badly dressed and walking along the corridor. He refuses to sit saying that the chair pinches him and he has more important things to do than learning. He sings and makes music with his mouth in such a way that other pupils quietly listen to him. He is nicknamed Pied Piper of the college. His jests entertain the class which remains always gay.
Of all the funny characters of the school, these have been more remarkable. On leaving the college, I will surely miss their company and the fun.
